Heardle 50s, better known as Heardle 1950s, is a daily music trivia game inspired by Wordle. This is one of a number of popular Heardle Decades games in which players guess songs from the 1950s that are played through short segments of the introduction. Known rock, doo-wop, jazz, blues and classic pop enthusiasts will spot the legendary musicians Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly.
It's easy to play: the challenge is to guess the name of the song and the artist within 6 tries or fewer. The players start with a very short piece of audio – typically only 1 or 2 seconds in length. Every wrong guess or no turn unlocks a portion of the intro, making them easier to find.
The game includes a helpful dropdown suggestion system, allowing players to quickly search for matching songs. Like the original Heardle format, results can be shared using colored score grids. Even when classic Spotify-based Heardle ended in 2023, fan-made versions like Heardle 50s continue to keep nostalgic music games alive.
Modern popular music was formed during the 1950s. Many songs are instantly recognizable with their early rockabilly riffs, frenzied piano intros, smooth crooner vocals and soulful r'n'b melodies. Some classics like “Jailhouse Rock,” “Johnny B. Goode” and “Great Balls of Fire” are pretty common and are often played.
Pay special attention to intros, vocal style, and instrument patterns. Before you can be sure of song identification, you can try to guess by hearing the distinctive noises of the instrument in the recordings, such as the guitar riff of Chuck Berry or the piano energy of Jerry Lee Lewis. When you are stuck, strategically skip to open up more audio, but not end the round.
