About Strands Unlimited
Strands Unlimited is a free online word puzzle game based on the popular NYT Strands format. Players look for themed words and a special word known as the spangram in a 6 x 8 letter grid. You can play as many puzzles as you wish, and is ideal for word search, word games and brain teasers enthusiasts.

How to Play Strands Unlimited
The objection is easy: Identify all the theme words and the spangram in the grid.
First, check the theme of the puzzle and find words that are related to it in the letters of the puzzle. Tap, click or drag to form words between letters. As you find the correct theme word it is highlighted on the board.
Every puzzle contains:
- Several theme words are connected to the same topic
- One spangram that explains the theme
- A fully connected grid where every letter is used
If you get stuck, you can earn hints by finding valid non-theme words. After earning enough progress toward the hint system, the game reveals the letters of a theme word. Hints help with theme words but never reveal the spangram.
Take as much time as you need to solve each puzzle, as there is no time limit.

Helpful Advice to Solve More Puzzles
- Read the theme first. Understanding the puzzle's topic helps you predict which words may be hidden in the grid.
- Look for longer words. Longer theme words are often easier to spot and can reveal patterns for finding the remaining answers.
- Find the spangram early. Since the spangram explains the theme and stretches across the board, it can provide useful clues for other words.
- Scan the edges of the grid. The spangram always touches two opposite sides, so checking the borders can help narrow down its location.
- Use hints wisely. Save hints for difficult puzzles or when you've run out of ideas. They can reveal letters from a hidden theme word.
- Search methodically. Move through the grid carefully instead of guessing randomly. This makes it easier to spot connected letter patterns.
- Think of related words. Identify part of the theme then brainstorm words that relate to the topic and then find the words in the puzzle.
- Take your time. There is no time limit as you are able to take your time and concentrate on getting the answers right instead of the quickest answers.
