If you love Nirvana and enjoy quick music quizzes, Nirvana Heardle is worth a try. It’s a free daily game. You listen to short clips of song intros and try to name the track. Everything is from Nirvana’s own catalogue: Bleach, Nevermind, In Utero, the Unplugged sessions, B-sides, deep cuts. The idea is to test your knowledge of Kurt Cobain's guitar sound, those quiet-loud shifts, and that inimitable voice.
Hit the Play button and you’ll hear just the first second of the song. Type what you think it is and pick the right title from the suggestions that pop up — you have to choose from the list for it to count. You get six tries. Each time you guess wrong or hit Skip, the clip gets a little longer, getting up to about 16 seconds by the end. The trick is to get it right as soon as you possibly can. Once completed, you can play Unlimited Mode right away to practice as many as you want. A new song shows up every day at midnight, and you don’t need an account.
Nirvana’s catalog isn’t huge, but it’s full of character. The big anthems from Nevermind, the rougher edges of In Utero, the quieter Unplugged moments – they all have their own feel. This game points out those differences and helps you to see things you might not have noticed before.
